2 Cubes
Two cubes in perfect geometric tension — not touching, not separate. The space between them is the sculpture. A meditation on relationship as the primary structure of reality.
About the Work
Two cubes. Identical in form. Separated by an exact geometric interval. The space between them is not empty.
The 2 Cubes is the simplest direct statement in the Living Duality collection: that relationship is more fundamental than the things being related. The cubes themselves are not the subject of the work. The field between them is. The tension. The interval. The specific geometry of their mutual presence.
This connects to quantum field theory's understanding that the vacuum is not empty but full — that the space between particles is itself structured, energetic, informative. The 2 Cubes makes this visible at human scale. Two objects, clearly separated, clearly distinct, creating between them a structure that belongs to neither one alone.
The work also references the Cube and the Octahedron as dual polyhedra — a relationship central to Brant Hindman's published geometric research. In polyhedral geometry, two forms are duals when the vertices of one correspond to the faces of the other. They define each other. They cannot be understood in isolation. The 2 Cubes holds this relationship in physical space.
